Meet a nose: Klara Ravat
By opposing the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, Klara Ravat absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. By investigating the concept of landscape in an adventurous and exploratory way, she wants to amplify the wonderment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of alienation and recognition.
After studying qualitative trend research in Barcelona Klara moved to The Netherlands where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (ArtScience at The Royal Academy of Arts). At the same time, she started studying Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia. Klara is the co-founder and the director of the Smell Lab, a platform for olfactory art and inter-disciplinary practices that relate to scent as a medium for expression and communication, in Berlin and in an international context. The Smell Lab main mission is to co-produce, host, educate, innovate, and support artistic practices that involve the sense of smell and olfaction.

ABOUT 'MEET A NOSE'
A “nose” is a term traditionally used to describe the people whose profession it is to compose perfume. However, we all have noses, and we all use them, daily. In a way, we’re all noses, and some of us use ours as part of our life’s work.
It is with this in mind that the IAO is pleased to introduce our online conversation series, 'Meet a Nose'. Each episode takes the form of a one-hour moderated discussions, where extraordinary thinkers, singular artists, and distinctive perfumers from around the world share their unique perspectives on what it means to be a sensorial human in the world.
In order to preserve the informal atmosphere, each conversation is moderated by someone with a meaningful connection to the guest - business partners, friends or even family members. Topics of discussion will meander and twist – from creative practice to wherever the conversation takes us!
Come with an open mind. We may get into uncharted sensorial territory.

Smelling. Not a day goes by, the majority of us don’t do it. It’s something you only miss when you don’t have it, and hardly do we vocally appreciate it. Unless you’re Klara Ravat, the Barcelona-born olfactory artist and experimental filmmaker who found her passion in the sense of smell. I was curious to find out who this person is, what this art form is and how the two met. What I found was way more.
